San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith's right middle finger is fine, coach Jim Harbaugh told the media on Wednesday. A day after he watched Smith toss the ball around, Harbaugh's concerns were somewhat alleviated.

Smith told FoxSports.com's Alex Marvez that he threw the ball around Wednesday morning and wasn't sure whether he'd wear any protection on the sprained finger against the New York Giants on Wednesday.
Smith injured the finger on his last pass attempt during Sunday's 45-3 dismantling of the Buffalo Bills. X-rays were taken of Smith's hand before Smith's postgame press conference appearance, and Smith said then that he wasn't concerned about the injury.
But Harbaugh said he was concerned on Monday, before giving a more positive analysis of Smith's condition on Wednesday.
Against the Bills, Smith completed 18-of-24 passes for 303 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed three times for 49 yards.
