Backup Colin Kaepernick shined in Sunday's 34-0 victory over the New York Jets and could be in line for more playing time.
San Franciso 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick has undoubtedly earned himself more playing time moving forward after turning in his best performance as a pro in Sunday's 34-0 win over the New York Jets.
Kaepernick, who finished the day with five rushes for 50 yards and a touchdown, was borderline unstoppable against a solid Jets front-seven. The 2011 second round pick also had a shot at another touchdown following a 30-yard run with 1:12 left but he intentionally went down at the Jets' three-yard line so his team could "end the game with no more collisions and no more chances for injury."
Following his effective performance, Kaepernick expressed his desire to see more game action stating, "I'm hoping they'll use me more and more as the season goes along."
Starter Alex Smith seemed to have no issue with the way Kaepernick was utilized after he was pulled in favor of the former Nevada standout on third down of San Francisco's first scoring drive. Here's what Smith had to say about Kaepernick's performance when asked about the second-year signal caller in his postgame interview:
"It was great. Effective, for sure. That would be an understatement. He's a good player. I'm happy for him. He works extremely hard. He can help this team, so it's fun to see him get out there and have success."
