Brandon McCarthy Injury: Athletics Release Statement On Pitcher's Condition

Oakland Athletics starter Brandon McCarthy left Wednesday's matchup with the Los Angeles Angels after being hit in the head with a line drive in the fourth inning, though the team released a statement noting that he is doing fine.

McCarthy never lost consciousness, and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. He underwent a CAT scan, though the results are not yet known. The A's released this statement on his condition:

"Brandon McCarthy is conscious and doing well. Doctors at Summit Hospital want him to stay overnight for further observation. He will not accompany the team on the charter flight to Seattle tomorrow afternoon."

The first man on the scene was catcher Derek Norris, who had this to say about the accident:

"The first thing he asked me is 'Where did it hit me?'" Norris said. "I'd say that was on OK sign that it didn't cause him too much pain."

The A's will have the day off on Thursday before travelling to Seattle to face the Mariners on Friday. 17 of the team's last 23 regular season games are on the road.
