Stay connected for news and updates

Andy Roddick played what will be the final match of his storied career on Wednesday, falling to No. 7 Juan Martin del Potro in four sets, 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, 6-4, in the fourth round of the 2012 U.S. Open before a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

No. 20 Roddick won the first set via tiebreaker, but couldn't maintain his edge after del Potro surged to overcome the deficit in the second. The two players matched up well against one another, giving the capacity crowd a match to remember on Wednesday. Rain delays brought the match to a halt on Tuesday night.

Del Potro moves on to the quarterfinals to face No. 2 Novak Djokovic of Serbia on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
