Darrius Heyward-Bey will not play in the Oakland Raiders' Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos, CSN Bay Area reports. The team announced on Saturday that both Heyward-Bey and tight end Richard Gordon are officially "out" for the game in Denver.
Heyward-Bey has been sidelined since a brutal hit from Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Mundy in Oakland's Week 3 34-31 win. He has said that he cannot remember the hit, which left him motionless for several minutes and resulted in his being carried off the field.
Officially the result of the collision was a concussion and a neck strain, and the receiver has yet to pass the tests required before a player can return. Mundy was fined $21,000 by the league for the helmet-to-helmet hit, a decision he is expected to appeal. No suspension was handed out.
Oakland faces Denver at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday. Both teams are 1-2 so far this season.
