Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has resumed playing 5-on-5 for the first time since a right ankle injury caused him to miss 40 of 66 games during the 2011-2012 season, according to CSN Bay Area's Matt Steinmetz.
Curry said on Twitter on Wednesday, "Finally got the go ahead to play some pickup with the squad today. Felt good to get back."
The foregone conclusion from the statement is that he is back playing a full scrimmage.
The timing of the news is significant because Curry had previously told reporters that his goal was to resume playing 5-on-5 one or two weeks prior to the start of training camp, which begins Oct. 2. He averaged 14.7 points, 5.3 assists and 28.2 minutes per game in 26 games a season ago and figures to be a focal point of the Warriors' offense should he remain healthy in 2012-2013.
