San Francisco Giants' third baseman Pablo Sandoval is healing nicely after straining his hamstring back on July 24, and is almost back to game shape after taking some fielding drills Thursday. He will give his hammy it's first true test on Friday when he will join the Single-A San Jose Giants for a rehab assignment, according to CSN Bay Area.
Skipper Bruce Bochy noted that Kung Fu Panda will likely play two or three games with the farm squad before being put back on the Giants active roster. If so, and of course if all goes well, Pablo could return to the Black and Orange for Monday's series opener against the first-place Washington Nationals.
Pablo was eligible to come off the 15-day DL on Thursday, but appears to be on the right track to return for a crucial series at AT&T Park come the start of next week.
