San Francisco 49ers Release CB Curtis Holcomb

Stay connected for news and updates

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Thursday that they have released cornerback Curtis Holcomb from the team

Holcomb, a seventh-round draft pick last year, missed his rookie season with an Achilles tendon injury, missing even more time this year in training camp with a leg injury.

Holcomb returned to team drills on Wednesday with the 49ers, making a nice play to push Delanie Walker out of bounds at the 1-yard line on a series in the red-zone. Nevertheless, it was not enough to save him.

Holcomb was trying to earn himself a a spot in a cornerback unit that returned its top four players from the 2011-12 season, inlcuding Carlos Rogers, Tarell Brown, Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock. Perrish Cox has also had a good showing in camp thus far as well. All will be in action in Friday night's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings at Candlestick Park.
