Can Ryan Vogelsong Win A Cy Young Award?

If you don't think that San Francisco Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong is for real, you'd be dead wrong. And when his name gets brought up in Cy Young discussions, it certainly is worth listening to as Vogey has been quietly dominating all season long, and could be in line to take home the title as the National League's best pitcher in 2012.

Here's CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly's with some perspective on Vogelsong's excellent season.

I'm not sure if Vogelsong could be considered a favorite at the moment, although he does own the lowest ERA in the NL among qualified starters, at 2.27...you look up after a start like Wednesday night - tough lineup, on the road, only three strikeouts in seven innings - and you wonder how he kept the Cardinals off the board. How did he keep them from doing any damage?

Here's one big reason: Vogelsong has held opponents to a .143 average with runners in scoring position. He's allowed just 15 hits with a runner at second or third all season.

If the Giants continue winning and Vogelsong continues his dominance, I'd say he should be right amongst the top vote-getters in the NL. The R.A. Dickey story has nothing on the Vogey story if you ask me, and even though relievers like Aroldis Chapman and Craig Kimbrel have been lights out, they are still coming out of the bullpen.

Vogelsong still has an uphill battle if he wants to win a Cy, but with his string of quality starts (19 of 21) NL best ERA and bulldog mindset on the mound, he could sneak his way into the award this offseason.
