2012 Olympics Medal Count: China, United States Sit Atop Leaderboard

Stay connected for news and updates

Team USA and China have battled atop the overall medal leaderboard for years, and it looks like this go around in London will be no different. The two nations have been No. 1 and 2 throughout the first nine days of competition, with the United States holding a slight lead entering Sunday.

China has since overtaken the top spot on the leaderboard. After a somewhat disappointing day of events from Team USA and a couple of surprise finishes from the Chinese, they now hold a one-medal lead over the U.S.

Here is a look at the top of the leaderboard. The total number of medals won is listed first, followed by the number of gold, silver and bronze.

1. China: 61 (30 - 17 - 14)
2. United States: 60 (28 - 14 - 18)
3. Great Britain: 37 (16 - 11 - 10)
4. Russia: 35 (4 - 16 - 15)
5. Japan: 27 (2 - 12 - 13)
6. France: 25 (8 - 8 - 9)
7. Germany: 22 (5 - 10 - 7)
