2012 Olympics: Ranomi Kromowidjojo Wins 50m Freestyle, Jessica Hardy Doesn't Medal

The women's 50m freestyle final took place on Saturday afternoon in London. Jessica Hardy, a University of California alum and Long Beach native, was the lone representative from the United States. She entered as one of the bigger underdogs in what was a very tough field.

Hardy finished in seventh place. She did not get a great push at the start and trailed throughout most of the race, finishing in 24.62 seconds.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo has been one of the most dominant swimmers in London this past week and added yet another medal to her collection. She took home gold after racing in 24.05 seconds, an Olympic record. Aliaksandra Herasimenia placed second and took home silver, while Marleen Veldhuis won bronze.
