As the 2012 Olympic Games in London roll into their second weekend, the United States is exactly where they want to be: at the top of the charts in the medal count.
At the beginning of Saturday's competition, the U.S. holds an edge in both total medals and gold medals, with 43 and 21, respectively. China is just a stop behind on both fronts, currently holding 42 total medals and 20 gold medals.
Meanwhile, the past couple of days have been terrific for Great Britain as they have shot up the charts with wins in canoeing and cycling.
Here are the top five countries heading into Saturday:
1. United States - 43 (21, 10, 12)
2. China - 42 (20, 13, 9)
3. Russia - 23 (3, 12, 8)
4. Great Britain - 22 (8, 6, 8)
5. Japan - 21 (2, 8, 11)
