Guillermo Mota Activated By Giants Fresh Off Suspension

The San Francisco Giants have activated pitcher Guillermo Mota following the end of his 100-game suspension for violating MLB's banned substance policy. ESPN's Enrique Rojas reports that Mota is en route to Houston to meet up with the team as they prepare to face the Astros Tuesday night.

The move will fill the spot vacated by pitcher Jeremy Affeldt, who is on paternity leave as he and his wife, Larissa, expect the birth of their third child.

Manager Bruce Bochy told the team's website that Mota has been throwing quite well this week while playing for Triple-A Fresno.

Mota's suspension was his second. With the New York Mets in 2006, he served a 50-game suspension for using an unnamed substance. He was suspended in May for testing positive for clenbuterol, and on the heels of the Melky Cabrera scandal, the Giants are perhaps taking a risk in bringing the pitcher back, as Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area writes.
