The Barclays 2012 Final: Nick Watney Kicks Off FedEx Cup Playoffs With Win

Stay connected for news and updates

Nick Watney is now No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings with three more playoffs to go after turning a two-stroke deficit into a three-stroke victory at the Barclays Sunday afternoon.

Watney, who finished -10, played a steady, 2-under round while the rest of his competition, mainly Sergio Garcia, faltered on the formidable course. Garcia began the day with the tournament lead but shot a 4-over to finish in a tie for third place.

Brandt Snedeker, who finished in second with a score of -7, shot a 1-under 70 on the day which will put him in the talks for the Ryder Cup team along with Watney.

Tiger Woods, on the other hand, had quite the rough finale. Woods was still in striking distance heading into Sunday but double-bogeyed the 12th before following that up with bogeys on holes 13, 14 and 16. He finished the tournament tied for 38th at 1-over thanks to a 5-over Sunday.
