Olympic Rowing Results: Women's Eight Team USA Boat Claims Gold

The United States women's eight boat continues a sustained pattern of dominance in their event. Four years after taking gold in this event in China and beginning a long stretch of victory over the entire world, Team USA went back-to-back in London by beating out Canada by about a second and a half with a time of 6:10.59 in their event. It was a wire-to-wire victory for the United States, who were never seriously threatened through the race.

Two of the US rowers have Bay Area and Northern California connections. Erin Cafaro is originally from Modesto and attended school at the University of California. This is the Cal grad's second straight gold medal in the event, as she won gold in the women's eight in Beijing. Also a returning athlete in this event is Elle Logan (also a Beijing gold medla winner), who originates from Boothbay Harbor, Maine and was schooled and trained at Stanford.

Talk about the result with Cal fans at the California Golden Blogs, and with Stanford fans at Rule of Tree.
