The San Francisco 49ers signed linebacker Ikaika Alama-Francis to a one-year contract on Wednesday, according to the team. The 49ers also waived tight end Gijon Robinson.
Alama-Francis is entering his fifth season in the NFL, and comes to San Francisco after last playing with the Miami Dolphins.
Drafted in the second round of the 2007 draft by the Detroit Lions, Alama-Francis has struggled to find a solid role on an NFL team. His most productive season was in 2008, when he played in 13 games with Detroit and contributed 23 tackles and one sack.
From Kane'ohe, Hawaii, Alama-Francis played two years in college for the Hawaii Warriors.
Gijon Robinson, who has spent three NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts after playing college ball at Missouri Western State, has 31 career receptions for 240 yards and one touchdown.
