The last thing that Jeff Gordon needed heading into Watkins Glen on Sunday was more bad luck. At least for a change in the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Gordon wasn't the only one who seemed jinxed. Following the Finger Lakes 355, many drivers complained of a supposedly oil-slicked track. Although NASCAR denied the track had oil on it, there seems to be little explanation for the frequency of spin-outs on Sunday.
Two costly spin-outs happened on the final lap. The first happened to then-leader Kyle Busch, who spun out into the grass, allowing Brad Keselowski and Marcos Ambrose to have an all-out war in their mad dash for the checkered flag. As Ambrose was picking up the win, Gordon was spinning out on the final lap, ending up in the guard rail and having to bitterly settle for 21st place.
