The San Francisco 49ers hosted the Minnesota Vikings on Friday in the preseason opener for both teams. The Niners managed to get their preseason started on the right foot as they picked up a 17-6 win.
The game was interesting in that the entirety of the scoring for both teams was done in the first half. The Niners scored seven points in the first quarter and 10 in the second. After halftime, the game was a stalemate. From the outset, however, the 49ers controlled the tempo. Alex Smith capped off San Francisco's opening possession with a four-yard touchdown pass to Brett Swan and the Niners never looked back.
Colin Kaepernick had a rushing touchdown for the other six-point play in the game.
The game was far from all good news for the 49ers, however. Aldon Smith needed to leave the game after suffering an injury and has been diagnosed with a bruised hip.
