The top two finishers from a year ago return to the American Century Championship at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course are favored once again this weekend as actor Jack Wagner looks to repeat while Dallas Cowboys quarterback tony Romo is looking to get out of his 2nd place funk.
Romo, an amateur player who's tried to qualify for the last seven U.S. Opens, remembers the fatal 8-iron miss on the 54th hole that left him just short of his first ACC title.
"I just missed a key shot coming down the stretch," said Romo, who will report to Dallas Cowboys training camp next week. "But anytime I play in something, I think I can win. I've played pretty well this summer and if my putter is working, my game is pretty sharp."
Romo paired up with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers Wednesday in a practice round against NBC producer Tom Randolph and announcer Mark Rolfing.
As for Wagner, he staved of Romo 80-77 in the 54-hole Stableford tournament. Wagner also won in 2006 and is one of just four players to have played in all 22 years of Tahoe celebrity golf events.
