Swimming once again was front and center at the Olympics stage, and no story will probably approach the enormity of Michael Phelps winning his 18th and 19th medals - making him the most decorated Olympian in history.
Elsewhere taking laps, Cal student Caitlin Leverenz took home the bronze medal in the 200-meter individual medley for the first medal of her Olympic career.
Allison Schmitt set an Olympic Record in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:53.61.
Everyone's favorite Cal product Alex Morgan had the assist in a 1-0 win over North Korea. Morgan threaded a ball to Abby Wambauch who became the first non-British woman to score a goal on the historic grounds of Old Trafford. The U.S. women's soccer team is looking strong in the search for yet another gold medal as they easily won their group, scoring eight goals in the three games.
The women's gymnastic team also won the gold medal quite handedly - beating Russia by close to five full points. The U.S. women's team has been the top ranked team in the previous two Olympics but failed to reach the top step on the podium. This is the first goal for the ladies since 1996.
