Olympic Medal Count: Phelps Helps Keep U.S. Tied With China

Stay connected for news and updates

The swimmers are keeping the U.S. afloat against the mighty China medal machine as they picked up four more medals to keep pace with China. Both countries now sit at 23 total medals.

The women's gymnastic team lived up to the lofty expectations put on them, taking home a gold medal. Vincent Hancock took home a gold medal in the skeet event to push the U.S.'s total to six for the day, and up their total gold medal count to nine. That still pales in comparison to China, who have 13 gold medals - as many medals as third place Japan does total.

The swimmers are leading the pack as Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Allison Schmitt all have three medals each. Phelps meanwhile became the most decorated Olympian in history with his 19th medal won today.
