After an impressive 2008 run that saw Team USA land the silver medal in Beijing, 2012 will be the year in which the women look to take home their first gold as a country with a strong contingency of Bay Area representation.

Head coach Hugh McCutcheon's team has three Bay Area players as Stanford's Foluke Akinradewo and Logan Tom as well as Stockton native Nicols Davis will all represent the Red, White and Blue this year.

Coming into the 2012 London games, the USA women's team is ranked No. 1 in the world, and are fresh off winning the 2012 World Grand Prix. It was their third consecutive win there. Opposite hitter Destinee Hooker is one of the best in this sport, and after not playing in the 2008 Olympics, she will be even hungrier to get her team that gold medal.

The women's team gets started on July 28th with their opening round match against South Korea.

You can check out the whole team here.
