UFC 149 is underway on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. The event will be headlined by a bantamweight championship match between Renan Barao and popular Northern California fighter Urijah Faber for the interim title.
Some of the biggest fireworks on the undercard came during the preliminary fight aired on FX. Canadian fighter Ryan Jimmo was making his UFC debut against Australian journeyman Anthony Perosh. The fight had barely gotten underway when Jimmo landed a thunderous right hand, knocking Perosh out cold for minutes. The flash knockout came in just seven seconds, tying a UFC record for fastest-ever KO. Jimmo further fired up the Calgary crowd by busting out a very impressive "robot" pop-and-lock routine.
The prelims were full of fireworks, as four of the six fights on free TV ended in knockout or submission. The main card was less exciting, with long, slow grappling periods drawing heavy boos in the James Head vs. Brian Ebersole and Shawn Jordan vs. Cheick Kongo matches. Likewise, an extremely methodical fight between Hector Lombard and Tim Boetsch as the co-main event drew the ire of both the crowd and the announcers.
