As the Stanford Cardinal prepare for their NCAA super regional matchup with No. 3 Florida State this weekend, another Card standout can call himself a big leaguer as left-handed pitcher Brett Mooneyham has been selected by the Washington Nationals No. 111 Overall in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The 6-foot-5 Mooneyham had an impressive 2012 for Stanford, going 7-5 with a 4.26 ERA in 14 starts (82.1 IP) with a 90/37 K/BB ratio. The son of former major league pitcher Bill Mooneyham, the youngster has a solid 92-93 mph with some tail and sink and an above-average curve and a decent changeup. He also pitched for Team USA in the Summer of 2010.
