The California Golden Bears baseball team have a long history of producing major league talent, and have once again churned out another as junior second basemen Tony Renda has been selected No. 80 overall by the Washington Nationals in the 2012 First-Year MLB Player Draft.

The 2011 Pac-12 Player of the Year batted .342 with 16 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI during the regular season for Cal this year. He also led the Golden Bears with 16 stolen bases (second in the Pac-12), including stealing third base three times. Renda has shown himself as a multi-tool guy with a lot of upside, bringing his three straight first team All Pac-12 honors along with him. He also was a third-team All American.
