Stay connected for news and updates

The University of San Francisco's Kyle Zimmer has been lighting it up for the Dons for a while now, but now has made the big time as the Kansas City Royals have selected the big right handed pitcher No. 5 overall in the 2012 First-Year MLB Draft.

The 6-4 220 pounder out of La Jolla, CA is known to have dominant velocity and a solid three pitch rotation already. He owned a5-3 record this season with a 2.85 ERA, and an incredible 104-to-17 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He led the WCC in shutouts (2), strikeouts (104), strikeouts looking (37), and strikeouts per nine innings (10.6), as well as finishing second in complete games (3), sixth in batting average against (.230), and ninth in ERA (2.85) in conference.

Zimmer joins a Royals squad chocked full of young talent, and hopefully will be a MLB staple sooner than later.
