On Sunday, the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rolled into Dover International Speedway. For a large portion of the FedEx 400, it looked like Jeff Gordon was set for his first big win of the season. Things didn't quite work out that way, however.
In the end, Jimmie Johnson picked up the win and will make a big gain in the Sprint Cup points standings as a result.
Gordon led for 60 laps and was still ahead when a late caution threw a significant wrench into his team's game plan. What appeared to be a sure-fire win resulted instead in a very disappointing 13th-place finish.
Fellow Bay Area driver AJ Allmendinger didn't fare much worse than Gordon, all things considered, as he finished in 16th place.
