The BCS as we know it has ceased to exist. A college football playoff is on its way.

Here's what the new college football playoff will look like when it goes into affect for 2014.

A selection committee will determine the top four teams after the 2014 regular season and put them in a four-team playoff. The top-ranked team will play the fourth-ranked team, the second-ranked team will play the third-ranked team, and then the winners of those two matchups get together for a championship game a week or so down the road.

The semifinals will take place in a rotating set of top-tier bowl games (like the Rose Bowl), with the championship ending up in the hands of the highest bidder. The BCS as we know it has ceased to exist.
