Sunday was a solid day for Bay Area drivers. Both Jeff Gordon and AJ Allmendinger placed in the top ten when the checkered flag waved on the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Both drivers picked up some points in the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings. For Allmendinger, the No. 9 placing was the second top-10 finish of the year.
This is not only Gordon's second straight top-10 finish, but his second straight sixth-place finish. Gordon is now in 18th place in the Sprint Cup standings with an even 10 races left before the Chase for the Cup. There is certainly still time left for Gordon to make the cut-off, but he has a lot of ground to make up and the wins need to begin coming immediately.
