Tour De France 2012: Team Manager Believes Levi Leipheimer Will Do Well

Bay Area cyclist Levi Leipheimer is preparing for the biggest race in the sport. On Sunday, the 2012 Tour de France will begin and Leipheimer will be riding for Omega Pharma Quick Step. According to VeloNation, Leipheimer's team is confident that the rider will have a strong showing in the Grand Tour event.

Omega Pharma Quick Step manager Patrick Lefevere believes that Leipheimer will be a key component of a strong team.

"We will be at the starting line with a competitive formation," he vowed. "Leipheimer has recently shown that he is enjoying a period of crescendo [improving form - ed.] in the Tour de Suisse, as is Peter Velits. By their side on the major climbs we will see Kevin De Weert, one of the best riders in the last editions of the Grande Boucle."

Bay Area cycling fans can cheer on Leipheimer beginning on Sunday as the Tour begins in Liege.
