Santa Rosa native Levi Leipheimer is among those competing for the grandest prize in professional cycling. The 2012 Tour de France begins on June 30.
Cadel Evans will return to defend his title in the 2012 Tour de France. Cycling's greatest and most famous race will begin on Saturday, June 30 in Liege and will finish up on Sunday, July 22 in Paris.
Santa Rosa native Levi Leipheimer is among the many professional cyclists who will be battling it out for the coveted yellow jersey throughout the race. Leipheimer is riding for the Omega-Pharma Quickstep team. This is the first year that Leipheimer has been riding for Omega-Pharma after being on Team RadioShack for the previous two seasons. Leipheimer is a three-time Tour of California winner. He was the winner of one individual stage in the Tour de France in 2007 and one team time trial in 2009.
Leipheimer will certainly have his work cut out for him as he goes up against the very best in the world for 20 grueling stages.
