After serving a 10-year sentence for a crime he did not commit, linebacker Brian Banks is receiving a tryout with the San Francisco 49ers.
After spending 10 years serving a sentence for a rape he didn't commit, 26-year-old Brian Banks is now getting his chance at playing in the NFL.
As Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports, Banks is with the San Francisco 49ers for a three-day rookie minicamp. The 6-foot-2, 240 pound linebacker is expected to see time at middle linebacker during the camp, as he and other undrafted free agents compete for the 90th and final roster spot on the team.
Banks became a free man on May 24 after the alleged rape victim admitted that she made up the story. He had spent five years of his sentence in prison.
He has had tryouts with a number of teams in the time since his release including the San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Cheifs and Seattle Seahawks.
