On Saturday night in Charlotte, the 2012 Sprint Cup Series took a break from points-earning races to run the Sprint NASCAR All-Star Race. The event is a chance for the NASCAR drivers to really let loose and give the fans plenty of reasons to cheer, but the top prize of a $1 million check is also pretty nice.
The check eventually went to Jimmie Johnson, who took the checkered flag easily in the five-segment, 90-lap All-Star Race.
A.J. Allmendinger placed second in the Sprint Showdown earlier in the evening, which allowed him to enter the All-Star Race, along with Showdown winner Dale Earnhardt, Jr.. Allmendinger actually ended up finishing higher in the All-Star Race than his fellow Bay Area driver, Jeff Gordon. Of course, the final standings don't have any bearing, but it's worth nothing.
