After no one expected it to happen in 2012, the Triple Crown is now tantalizingly possible for one surprising horse.
I'll Have Another was not expected to win the Kentucky Derby. The odds were against him winning the Preakness Stakes. Yet on Saturday in Pimlico, I'll Have Another put on a repeat performance of his thrilling victory at Churchill Downs and chased down betting favorite Bodemeister in the home stretch.
I'll Have Another has now secured the first two wins that comprise the Triple Crown and will be trying for the most elusive title in sports at the Belmont Stakes. By now, most observers have seen more than enough to be certain that they should not count this horse out from achieving the improbable.
Here are the full results from the 2012 Preakness Stakes:
1. I'll Have Another
2. Bodemeister
3. Creative Cause
4. Zetterholm
5. Teeth of the Dog
6. Optimizer
7. Cozzetti
8. Tiger Walk
9. Deddy Nose Best
10. Went the Day Well
11. Pretension

The 2012 Preakness Stakes is in the books, and I'll Have Another is the winner, moving him one step closer to the ever-elusive Triple Crown. Much like the Kentucky Derby, favorite Bodemeister was in the lead through almost the entire race. I'll Have Another spent much of the race in third or fourth, but coming down the stretch the horse made his move and he chased down Bodemeister to take the win by a neck. Creative Cause came in third.
The final odds on I'll Have Another were 3-1, compared to Bodemeister's 2-1. The pace in the race was a little slow, favoring Bodemeister, but halfway through the stretch jockey Mario Gutierrez urged the horse on and that was good enough for the win. I'll Have Another is now only one win away from the Triple Crown, where he would be the first horse to win that honor since 1978.

Saturday brings us the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes, where Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another will look to take another step towards doing what no horse has done since 1978: winning the Triple Crown. Bodemeister, the Kentucky Derby favorite who finished second to I’ll Have Another, is again the favorite. Bodemeister has odds of 7/4, while odds for I’ll Have Another are 5/2.
The horses both drew favorable post positions, with I’ll Have Another at the ninth position and Bodemeister at seventh. That should help both avoid what became of Union Rags, the Derby contender who saw his shot at victory lost in traffic at the rail. Went The Day Well and Creative Cause are other horses to watch at Pimlico, with odds of 6/1 and 7/1 respectively.
Online coverage begins at 4:30pm EDT (1:30pm PDT) at NBC Sports.

The 2012 Preakness is nearly here and it looks like yet another strong field this time around. I'll Have Another took home the first leg of the Triple Crown, which has not been won since 1978 by Affirmed. Bodemeister was a heavy favorite at The Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, but fell short by a few feet to finish in second place. He will be the favorite once again at the Preakness on Saturday.

Pretension - J. Santiago, C. Grove
Teeth of the Dog - J. Bravo, M. Matz
Tiger Walk - K. Desormeaux. I. Correas

More: Derby payouts are here.
After much anticipation and a day full of pageantry and hullabaloo, the 2012 Kentucky Derby was run on Saturday, culminated in the 138th winner at Churchill Downs. I'll Have Another took home the top prize with a thrilling last-second win. Bodemeister came in second. Dullahan took third place. I'll Have Another had 14-1 odds against at race time.
The morning line favorite on Saturday was Bodemeister, but Union Rags seemed to capture the imagination, or at least the attention, of most bettors and became the favorite to win as the day progressed.
The Run for the Roses now complete, speculation can turn to the other two legs of the Triple Crown. I'll Have Another will now attempt to win one of the most elusive championships in sports. I'll Have Another will go for wins in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes in an attempt to become the first horse to take all three wins since Affirmed took the Triple Crown back in 1978.
