2012 Players Championship Scores: Kevin Na Takes The Lead On 18, Kuchar And Fowler Close Behind

Rickie Fowler's charge up the leaderboard was the big story from day three of the 2012 Players Championship, but Matt Kuchar and Kevin Na both had strong days. Kuchar added a 69 to his scores of 68 in both of the first two rounds and ended at 11-under, good for second. He stood alone in first for much of the day, but late in the round Kevin Na took advantage of Kucher's slip-ups.

Kutcher collected late bogeys at holes 14 and 17, including sinking the ball at 17 and landing in the bunker on 18. Na, who shot par on 14 of 18 holes, managed a birdie on 16, to avoid disaster on 17, and to birdie on the final hole to go 4-under on the day and take sole posession of the lead at 12-under.

Fowler had everyoe talking as he collected seven birdies, not doing worse than par until he bogeyed on the last hole. A 66 on the day sent him 14 places up the leaderboard and left him in third place at 9-under overall. Things are tight at the top of the standings, so expect pressure and tension at a height for round four.

Kevin Na sits alone at 8-under as Zach Johnson does at 7-under, while Blake Adams, Jonathan Byrd and Cal Alumni Charlie Wi sit at 6-under.

The Players Championship 2012: Tiger Woods Rallies To Make Cut

Tiger Woods had a miserable first round at The Players Championship, but a big day on Friday rallied the world's former top-player to two-under for the tournament. Woods is now tied for 30th overall and has two more rounds this weekend to try and make a move towards the top of the leaderboard.

Matt Kuchar, Kevin Na and Zach Johnson are all tied at eight-under for the tournament through two rounds. Johnson had a huge day on Friday, shooting six-under par. Harris English, who sits in second place at -7, had a big day as well, shooting five-under.

Other notable names playing this weekend: After shooting an even par in the first round, Rickie Fowler shot -3 to move him into a tie for 17th overall. Phil Mickelson is tied with Woods at -2, as is Jim Furyk. Rory McIllroy and Vijay Singh were among the most notables to miss the cut.

The third round of the 2012 Players Championship is set to begin on Saturday morning.

The Players Championship 2012, Leaderboard Update: Zach Johnson Takes The Lead After Second Round 66

The second round of the 2012 Players Championship has found former Masters champ Zach Johnson the new man to beat after firing a scorching 6-under 66 to vault atop the leaderboard at 8-under for the week.

Johnson had eight birdies and two bogies in total, including five of those birds on the back nine, coming in with a 32 on his back side this morning. He now finds himself two shots clear of the field as Cal Alum Charlie Wi, Aussie Adam Scott and four other players at 6-under for the week.

Phil Mickelson shot a second round 71 to move to 2-under for the tournament, while first round leader Ian Poulter had a double bogey on his first hole to drop back out of the lead.

Tiger Woods just teed off, sitting on the wrong side of the currently projected cut line of even par at 2-over for the tournament, and will need to avoid those mistakes if he wants to be around for the weekend. Woods has never missed the cut in consecutive starts in his professional career.

The Players Championship 2012 Leaderboard: Nick Watney Shoots One-Under, Tiger Woods Flirts With Missing Cut

Nick Watney is probably the best Bay Area performer out there, as he's six strokes off the lead after the first round of the 2012 PGA Championship. Watney shot a 71 to stay at one-under par, shooting four birdies in the first 11 holes on the first, fourth, ninth and eleventh to go up to three-under, then struggled down the stretch with bogeys on 13 and 18 to fall back. Watney still is doing fairly well, as the Sacramento-born golfer remains in contention after a good under-par round and will have to make his move in the second or third round to get into contention.

Tiger Woods hasn't done quite as well, shooting a 74. Woods has five bogeys and three birdies to his name and will have an upward hill to climb to even be able to play the weekend at Ponte Vedra Beach. Ricky Barnes is at two over as well, as is Spencer Levin and Kevin Chappell.

The Players Championship 2012, Leaderboard Update: Ian Poulter Fires -7 To Take Lead, Tiger Woods Falters

The TPC Sawgrass was in prime scoring condition this morning, and many players with early tee times tok advantage of that fact, firing impressivly low scores at the always difficult 2012 Players Championship.

Englishman Ian Poulter was sizzling out on the course this morning, charging ahead after his first round after firing eight birdies on the day including three in a row to begin the back nine. He would bogey the par 4 seventh, his lone blemish on his scorecard, taking the lead at 7-under. Blake Adams sits right behind him at 6-under, while Kevin Na and Ben Crane both fired 5-under 67's. Currently 14 players sit within four shots of the lead.

As for Tiger Woods simply couldn't get any momentum from the get-go, going bogey-birdie-bogey to start his round, followed by bogies on 10, 15, and 18. He did manage to birdie par-3's 13 and 17, but couldn't keep from the bogey train this morning.
