In the first Saturday race of the 2012 Sprint Cup Series, the Samsung Mobile 500 was held at Texas Motor Speedway. The race was a good one for both Jeff Gordon and A.J. Allmendinger, who represented the Bay Area with strong showings, particularly for Gordon.
The race was largely free of dramatics and was won by Greg Biffle, who extended his lead atop the Sprint Cup leaderboard to 19 points over Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Gordon had his best finish of the season, placing fourth and improving to 17th place in the Sprint Cup standings. Allmendinger's 15th-place finish ties his second-best placing of the young season, moving him up to 20th place in the standings. This 15th-place performance is on the heels of his best 2012 race to date, when he placed second at Martinsville two weeks ago.
