Bracketology 2012: Cal Sits At No. 11 Seed, St. Mary's At No. 8 In ESPN's Latest Prediction

Selection Sunday is mere hours away as it officially tips off at 3 p.m. (PT) on CBS. College hoops fans across the country will be able to finally learn whether or not their favorite team will be participating in all the madness of March or if they'll have to find a different team to root for in the big dance. There are some lucky fans out there who know with 100 percent certainty whether or not their favorite team will make it in on Sunday, but Stanford Cardinals fans and California Golden Bears fans aren't quite in that group.

In ESPN's Joe Lunardi's latest bracket prediction, he lists the California Bears as a No. 11 seed in the Midwest bracket. Cal finished the 2012 season with a 24-9 record (13-5 Pac-12) and were knocked out of the conference tournament by the eventual champions, the Colorado Buffaloes, who earned the automatic bid. The Golden Bears currently have an RPI score of 36.

Lunardi doesn't believe that the Stanford Cardinals will enjoy a spot in the tournament, though. The Cardinals finished the season with a 21-11 record (10-8 Pac-12) and were knocked out of the conference tournament in the quarterfinals by Cal. They have an RPI score of 98. It's more than likely that they won't be making it.

St. Mary's fans can sit back and relax as the Gaels won the WCC tournament by defeating the Gonzaga Bulldogs in overtime. They're currently listed as a No. 8 seed and they have an RPI of 28.
