USF Vs. Missouri: Kyle Zimmer Continues Early Scoreless Streak

The San Francisco Dons improved to 3-2 Friday evening as they defeated the Missouri Tigers 3-1. Team ace and MLB prospect Kyle Zimmer went five innings striking out five and giving up two hits in the no decision. Elliott Waterman threw the final 1 2/3 innings to get the win. Adam Clear and Matt Chavez hit a pair of RBI singles in the eighth inning to propel the Dons to victory and snap a two-game losing streak.

Zimmer is projected by many as a potential first round draft pick and has developed quite a bit of buzz in only two starts. After a summar of 48 innings in the Cape Cod League, USF shut him down in the fall and has slowly been working him back into game shape. He had a pitch count of 40 in his 2012 debut but threw enough strikes to get through four scoreless innings. He lasted five innings in this second start as he continues to build his stock.

Zimmer will next pitch in the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State next weekend, likely starting against Cal State Northridge on Friday.
