AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am: Phil Mickelson Wins, Trumps Tiger Woods, Charlie Wi

Phil Mickelson relishes his chances to play alongside former No. 1 in the World Tiger Woods, and took full advantage this Sunday at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, firing a final round 8-under 64 to finish four shots ahead of the field for his first victory of 2012, and his fourth career victory at Pebble Beach.

Phil was on fire on the front nine, going out in 31 with birdies on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th, and an eagle on the par 5 6th. A pair of birdies on the 13th and 14th kept his buffer from the rest of the field, then capped it off with a beautiful wedge tucked close to the pin for a final birdie on 18.

It was the best we’ve seen Phil play in a while, easing his way into the victory as those around him mostly tumbled.

The most notable tumbler of the day is of course Tiger Woods, who finished his front nine with three straight bogies, and never seemed to get into a groove all day from anywhere on the course, especially on the greens, missing a number of short putts today. He had a nice birdie on the par-3 12th, but two more bogies on 14th and 15th killed any chance he had, finishing the week 8-under.

First round leader and Cal Alum Charlie Wi started with a unfortunate three-putt on the first, but hung tough to finish 15-under, while Stockton native Ricky Barnes finished solo third at 13-under.
