The Cal Bears trail Oregon 24-10 at the half in a game that turned quickly on a missed field goal attempt.
The Ducks led 14-7 after the first quarter thanks to a pair of lengthy touchdown drives led by quarterback Marcus Mariota. Oregon took advantage of a personal foul penalty that gave the offense new life after a failed third-down attempt, with Byron Marshall's 3-yard touchdown run giving the Ducks a one-score lead.
The two teams traded field goals in the second quarter and, trailing 17-10, the Bears appeared to be on their way to possibly tying the game. Cal would be stopped inside Oregon territory, with Vincenzo D'Amato's 48-yard field goal attempt sailing wide. The Ducks would take advantage, with Mariota completing 5-of-7 passes on the ensuing drive that was capped with a 10-yard pass to Josh Huff.
The Cal offense, thanks to a strong ground attack, has 193 yards of total offense in the first half. Quarterback Allan Bridgford was 7-of-12 for 87 yards and a touchdown, while running back Isi Sofele led the rushing attack with 64 yards on eight carries.

California's bid to play spoiler against Oregon began with a stumble as the Bears trail the Ducks 14-7 after the first quarter.
Oregon opened the scoring early in the game with a 57-yard touchdown drive following a Cal three-and-out to start the game, giving the Ducks a 7-0 lead thanks to Macus Mariota's 10-yard pass to Colt Lyerla. The Bears responded with a 71-yard drive to tie the game thanks to an Allan Bridgford 10-yard pass just under three minutes later.
The game would get chippy a few drives later when the Ducks appeared to have been stopped short on third down deep inside Cal territory. A personal foul against Cal gave Oregon another chance on the drive, with the Ducks scoring and taking the lead just four plays later after Byron Marshall's 3-yard touchdown run.
Oregon has outgained Cal 147-104 through the first quarter, with Cal quarterback Bridgford 3-of-5 for 39 yards and a touchdown so far in the game.
