49ers vs. Bills: Rookies not bothered by inactive list

Kelley L Cox-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

San Francisco 49ers rookies like LaMichael James, A.J. Jenkins and Joe Looney have had trouble seeing the field on a stacked Niners roster.

The San Francisco 49ers battle the Buffalo Bills this week in Candlestick Park, and they will be near full strength while doing so. That means it's unlikely you'll see rookies like A.J. Jenkins, LaMichael James or Joe Looney in action. Only Jenkins has made it off the inactive list, but he did not play in that game against Green Bay.

But it hasn't really bothered any of them. Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group reports that all of them have been busy. Jenkins in particular has been working as part of the scout team, simulating multiple receivers like Jordy Nelson, Calvin Johnson and Santonio Holmes (Donald Jones is the receiver he's simulating this week).

With most of the team returning, there's really no space for Jenkins to displace top receivers like Mario Manningham, Michael Crabtree or Randy Moss. Likewise James is stuck looking up at Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and Brandon Jacobs. The depth charts are crowded, which isn't the worst thing in the world for San Francisco.
