Giants capture second World Series title in three years, defeat Tigers 4-3

The San Fransisco Giants finished the sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a 4-3 win on Sunday night to claim their second title in three years.

The San Francisco Giants completed the sweep to finish off the Detroit Tigers 4-3 to win the World Series on Sunday night. It took extra innings to get it done, but the Giants earned their second championship title in three years.

Marco Scutaro delivered the crucial hit in the top of the 10th inning to drive home Ryan Theriot for the game-winning run. In the bottom half, Sergio Romo pitched a flawless frame and struck out Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera to earn the save.

Cabrera's bat came alive in Game 4 as he attempted to get the Tigers offense going, hitting a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give Detroit its first lead of the series. Buster Posey regained the lead for the Giants in the sixth inning with a two-run shot of his own, before Delmon Young tied the contest at three apiece in the bottom half.

Starter Matt Cain, who was San Francisco's ace all season, delivered a strong, seven-inning performance. Detroit's Max Scherzer countered with eight strikeouts and three runs allowed in over six innings of work.

In total, the Giants' pitching staff held the Tigers to six runs for the series.
