Giants vs. Tigers, 2012 World Series Game 3: San Francisco fans react after taking 3-0 edge

Doug Pensinger

The San Francisco Giants used a dominant pitching performance in Game 3 to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the World Series.

The San Francisco Giants are closing in on their second World Series title in three years following a 2-0 victory in Game 3 of their series against the Detroit Tigers. The win gave the Giants a commanding 3-0 lead, and they'll have a chance to finish things off Sunday night in Detroit.

The story of the series for the Giants has been their pitching, especially in their most recent outing. San Francisco allowed just five hits for the whole game, and starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong was able to escape from a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning.

Giants blogger Grant Brisbee weighed in on the matter at McCovey Chronicles.

Now we're through with the third game. The story has shifted to the pitching. Shutouts and pitching and shutouts and pitching. That's what it's going to be about until something else comes up. Hopefully nothing else will, and that will be the story of the 2012 postseason for the next century. The Giants' pitching is the story, and if you picked the Giants to win the pennant before the season, that's about what you were expecting. It was just, uh, a roundabout way to get there.

Tim Lincecum has served as an effective reliever for San Francisco, giving his team 2.1 innings of hitless baseball after Vogelsong exited the game. Sergio Romo came in the ninth inning and picked up his second save of the World Series.

If the Giants are able to get a similar performance from their staff in Game 4, it's a good bet they'll be crowned MLB champions at the end of the night.
