49ers Roster Moves: Dominique Zeigler Activated From PUP List, Jeremiah Masoli Waived

The 49ers made several roster moves Monday afternoon as they prepare for Saturday’s contest against the Houston Texans. The most prominent move was the activation of wide receiver Dominique Zeigler from the Physically Unable to Perform List. Zeigler was placed on the PUP list July 28 while he continued his recovery from an ACL injury. The 49ers will continue to have stiff competition at the wide receiver position and Zeigler will have to work especially hard to make a dent in the competition.

The 49ers also signed punter Sam Paulesco to handle camp punting duties while Andy Lee recovers from a hip pointer. Lee suffered the injury after a botched field goal attempt resulted in a hard fall. He made one more FG hold, but kicker David Akers handled punting duties the rest of the game. After seeing one of those punts blocked, it’s not at all surprising that the 49ers are bringing in a punter for the next couple weeks.

The 49ers also waived QB Jeremiah Masoli and kicker Fabrizio Scaccia. Masoli became expendable when the team decided to add QB Josh McCown. Now that McCown has a few days to learn some basics in the playbook, it’s likely that he or McLeod Bethel-Thompson will handle third string QB duties.
