Earthquakes vs. D.C. United, MLS Scores: United Drop Quakes at Home 2-0

For the first time in their last seven matches at Buck Shaw Stadium the San Jose Earthquakes were beaten in front of their home crowd, this time by the hands of former Quake Dwayne De Rosario and D.C. United by a score of 2-0.

In front of a sold out crowd the Quakes offense couldn’t get anything going as they remained stagnent throughout the match, and ultimately kept off the sheet. De Rosario made his presence felt in the 57th and 66th minute of the match, breaking through for both goals of the match along with three points for United.

Quakes coach Frank Yallop had this to say after the match:

"Losing at home is never good, especially when you have to win. We didn’t play well. It took us 30 minutes to get going. We had a spell [of good play] at the end of the first half. For the last 15 minutes we had a go. And then at the end, they had 10 men, and we started to have a few chances. But I think the quality was off tonight with us. They had two terrific goals, but I would’ve liked to score at home for sure. We had enough chances to get it done on the score sheet."

Yallop understands that time is running out on the season, and San Jose will need to kick it up a notch if they want to make it:

"There are still enough games [to make it] but we’ve got to start winning. As soon as you have not enough games to get points in then you’re out. We can win away if we get ourselves sorted out. We had a better record on the road last year, so I’m hoping we can get ourselves together and make sure we do get our wins that we need to get. We can’t give up."

San Jose is 5-8-9 on the season and is 21 points behind the first place Galaxy in the Western Conference.

The Quakes’ next match is against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, Aug. 6 at Buck Shaw Stadium, which will be Chris Wondolowski Bobblehead Night, presented by Wells Fargo. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. PT with coverage on Comcast SportsNet California, 1220 KDOW and 1370 KZSF.
