The San Francisco Giants have been getting hot as of late, but not due to any extraordinary offensive performances. In true Giants fashion it's been the pitching staff carrying the load, and now they carry the team in to Wrigley field to play four games in three days against the Chicago Cubs.
The Giants are 29-18 since May 1, the third best record during that span. But they still are the lowest scoring team in baseball, an unbelievable contradiction that gives opposing teams fits, but keeps the G-Men on their toes, knowing that every game will be a grind. They also hold the best one-run winning record in baseball at 22-11, something that will likely come in handy during this series.
The Cubs aren't an incredibly overpowering offensive team either, currently 16th in MLB in runs scored. But they're getting healthy again as Reed Johnson, Alfonso Soriano, Jeff Baker and Matt Garza have all returned from the DL this month, though they still have four more currently sitting there, including rookie Darwin Barney and Marlon Byrd.
The Giants and Cubs begin the series with a double-header Tuesday, the first time San Francisco has played a double dipper since June of 2009, and the against the Cubs since 1999. They'll be making up a rain out at Wrigley May 15th. It will also mark the return of Barry Zito from the DL, his frist start with the Giants since early April. He'll pitch the second game Tuesday against Rodrigo Lopez.
