It's that time of year again folks. It's interleague play in MLB. And with that comes the return of the Bay Bridge series between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's. This year should prove to be a great matchup between these teams, highlighting their excellent pitching staffs on both sides of the bay, while finding both teams hovering around the tops of their respective divisions.
The A's have a slight advantage in the series with a 42-38 record in interleague play against the Giants, but both teams recorded three game sweeps on their own turf last year. The Giants drew home field in the first series between these teams this season as San Francisco has won 10 of their last 14 meetings with the A's since 2008, but with each of these pitching staffs it literally is anyone's game.
Trevor Cahill, Brett Anderson, and Gio Gonzalez will square off with Ryan Vogelsong, Tim Lincecum, and Jonathan Sanchez during this series, not exactly a group of lightweights in the pitching department. The A's currently have the lowest team ERA in baseball at 2.86 and have a league leading 30 quality starts from their pitchers. The Giants are fourth in ERA at 3.32, 26 quality starts, and have the second lowest batting average against them at .227. Saying there might be a pitchers duel could be a ridiculous understatement this weekend.
