Dave Wilkerson Cleared To Play, Brian Schwenke Starting At Left Guard

Stay connected for news and updates

After the departure of Chris Martin and Cecil Whiteside’s greyshirt, Dave Wilkerson has become the main linebacking recruit from the prized 2010 class to see action outside for the Golden Bears. However he had to deal with the same old annoying NCAA bureaucracy.

Outside linebacker Dave Wilkerson and defensive end Gabe King have had to be held out of practice the past few days as they wait for paperwork to clear from NCAA clearinghouse.

Jeff Tedford said all of the players’ paperwork has been submitted multiple times but policies have changed and they haven’t received final clearance. The players can’t practice until the NCAA approves it.

Wilkerson has finally been cleared to play and should see action with the second unit on Saturday against Davis.

Also, sophomore Brian Schwenke has been confirmed to take over Matt Summers-Gavin’s position at left guard. Schwenke played most of 2009 as a true freshman backup, so he will have plenty of requisite experience at the position.
